 An Enchanted Evening

To get up close and personal to Rebecca click on her face.

It is one of those wonderful long summer days when the day stretches into the night and the moon awaits its cue
to arrive. Rebecca has been asked to assume the role of one of the hostesses at a benefit for the Charleston Museum, the first museum in the country. The museum was housed in the old Confederate meeting hall and was quite a beautiful building. However, with its any displays, it is not large enough to accommodate the number of people enthusiastically supporting the benefit. Instead, it will be held at one of the large plantation houses on the outskirts of town. The events will be held outdoors until the twilight fades into evening. The activities will then move into the spacious plantation house. While waiting for the many carriages in which the patrons will arrive, Rebecca enjoys the fragrances of the many blooms and the beauty of the garden gazebo.

Little Victorian Facts
One of the lovely accessories that a lady had in this period was a chatelaine. This was a beautiful piece of jewelry that had a purpose. These were, most often, chains attached to a lovely pin and fastened to the garment, usually at the waist. The chain then cascaded down the skirt to about finger tip length. The chatelaine is likely to hold a fan, or possibly a small purse, a mirror and many times it was a watch, or any useful item that the lady did not wish to carry.

Rebecca's Dress
For this occasion, Rebecca made a very special dress of silk chiffon and very fine lace. The overskirt was done a little differently. It was opened in the front and pulled up on the sides to be released in the back as a soft drape. Another overskirt also opened in the front to reveal tiers of lovely lace and then to fall into a graceful train.
