#12cc  Picnic At Colonial Lake

Bonnie Holden's

Olde Charleston Collection

Victorian Scenes of Charleston, SC

"PICNIC AT COLONIAL LAKE"

Colonial Lake has always been known as a place of beauty with its lovely homes bordering its calm blue, wind stirred waters.  It has been a favorite picnic spot for young families and oldsters alike down through the generations.  Whether just reading the daily news, sailing boats on the pond, or riding a bicycle around the area, the tranquility of the lake insures many returns.

Once a pond fed by the waters of the adjacent harbor, its beauty was, at one time, threatened by the reclaiming of the nearby marshland.  As a result, the pond became a virtual mud hole.  The city responded to the cries from the citizenry and constructed lovely Colonial Lake.  It is a concrete lined lake, two city blocks in size.  Its depth is that of a reflecting pool.

#15cc  Celebration in the Park

"CELEBRATION IN THE PARK"

It is a beautiful day and the flags are flying.  Young couples stroll hand in hand an the band plays on.  An elderly couple
stands before the bandstand swaying to the music, arms lovingly around each other, while perhaps remembering earlier concerts from their youth.  Young love is also present.  Notice the boy and girl shyly stealing their first kiss far away from the glances of the adults.  And then we have kthe young bride fixing her new husband's tie.  But celebrations are most enjoyed by children and here we have the little boys playing marbles, the little brother gleefully chasing his sister, the children teaching the dog to fetch and the little girl approaching with her freshly picked posies.  All seem to be having a great day.

#18cc Memories

"MEMORIES"

Like college campuses the world over this campus is no exception.  Young love, friendships, and the memories of these relationships become as important as the memory of the lessons learned.

The time is late afternoon and the two young ladies having met their beaus after the day's classes stroll the campus and discuss the day's activities.  The young man on the left diligently carves the lady's initials upon the tree while she holds his books and looks on in adoration.
